Purpose of Position
The Collections agent is responsible for managing the collection of outstanding debts from clients and customers. They are responsible for informing customers of their overdue, collecting payment, negotiate payment plans, and ensure payments are made as soon as possible.
They report directly to the Credit Manager.
Key Tasks
- Support the collection efforts/calls for accounts receivable portfolio.
- Create and maintain credit history files and document daily collections activity.
- Document all updates and acquired information on accounts.
- Perform account/payment reconciliations.
- Commence appropriate actions to ensure collection of slow paying or overdue balances.
- Timely reporting of credit and collection activities and taking action as prescribed by Senior management to tackle issues raised.
- Undertake research and assemble documentation to support adjustments to account balances.
- Assist in training other relevant personnel on matters related to collections.
- Act as the company’s representative in taking inbound calls and responding to customer queries.
- Arrange debt repayment based on customer’s financial situation and Company repayment guidelines.
- Assist customers to resolve account problems emanating from incorrect billing, inaccurate information, slow payments, etc.
Skills and Experience
- 2+ years’ experience as a Call Centre Agent – Collections.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of payment plans and accounting procedures.
- Knowledge of office and accounting software.
- Patience and resilience.
- Excellent negotiating skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with state debt collection laws.
Working Environment
- Position is office based (locally) but will require client visits
- Normal working hours are 8.30am – 5.30pm
